No Matter How Long

The creak of his boot leather

And the sound of his voice

She doesn't want to get up

But she doesn't have a choice

The kids aren't awake

But the baby is screaming

A day ago at this time

They'd be in bed dreaming

She makes him some coffee

And packs up his bag

He spit-shines his buckle

With her new dishrag

She didn't want much

Just her husband and kids

And a cozy old house

Where they'd happily live

A modern day fairy story

Prince Charming and all

Only this Cinderella

Never went to a ball

A rodeo Sunday

The sun shining up high

The arena was dusty

Not a cloud in the sky

She was there with some friends

To cheer and to clap

When from over the rail

A hat fell in her lap

He'd just finished his ride

When the wind caught the brim

He was looking around

And saw her waving at him

She tossed him his Stetson

And grinned real pretty

Been ten years ago

Since they left that city

They traveled the country

And boy was it fun

But this girl's fairy tale

Was only half done

Till one night in Houston

He'd made the first-go

And nine short months later

Came little Beau

They settled in Durango

And she got her castle

But being tied to one town

Sure was a hassle

He was itching to travel

And aching to ride

So she hugged him and kissed him

And off he would drive

The girls both love daddy

Her three boys worship dad

When he leaves, they don't cry

It's Mamma that's sad

Even she smiles

As she helps send him away

Cause deep down she knows

He'll return any day

He may have her heart

But she holds his too

And out on that highway

He starts feeling blue

His trips have been fewer

And further between

It's home he know favors

Not the rodeo scene

He's still got the fever

Though it's not as strong

And she'll just keep waiting

No matter how long

As you can see by the date, this is very, very old. Freshman year of highschool to be exact.
